Cambodia Gambling Dens
Friday, 14. August 2026
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, highlights 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
