The confirmed number of Kyrgyzstan gambling halls is a fact in a little doubt. As data from this country, out in the very remote interior area of Central Asia, tends to be arduous to get, this may not be all that astonishing. Whether there are 2 or three authorized gambling dens is the element at issue, perhaps not in fact the most consequential piece of data that we do not have.
What certainly is credible, as it is of most of the ex-Soviet states, and certainly true of those located in Asia, is that there will be a great many more not legal and clandestine gambling dens. We understand that located in Bishkek, the capital city, there is the Casino Las Vegas (an amazingly original name, don’t you think?), which has both gaming tables and video slots. We will also see both the Casino Bishkek and the Xanadu Casino. Each of these offer 26 slot machine games and 11 gaming tables, divided amidst roulette, chemin de fer, and poker. Given the remarkable likeness in the square footage and floor plan of these two Kyrgyzstan gambling dens, it might be even more bizarre to determine that they share an address. This seems most bewildering, so we can likely conclude that the number of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling dens, at least the legal ones, stops at 2 casinos, one of them having adjusted their title just a while ago.
The country, in common with most of the ex-Soviet Union, has undergone something of a fast conversion to free market. The Wild East, you could say, to allude to the chaotic conditions of the Wild West an aeon and a half back.
Kyrgyzstan’s gambling halls are in fact worth going to, therefore, as a piece of social research, to see dollars being bet as a form of social one-upmanship, the apparent consumption that Thorstein Veblen wrote about in 19th century u.s.a..
