Even though the fact that online gambling is now a billion dollar industry, and boundless thousands of new wagerers around the world sign on each day to play at web gambling dens, there are still millions of newbies to the world of online betting who don’t as yet have a good understanding of much of the terminology used in online gambling, and gambling on athletics in general. Notwithstanding, knowledge of these ideas is necessary to understanding the games and rules of wagering:

ACTION: Any style of bet.

ALL-IN: In poker, all-in means a gambler has put all of his money into the pot. A second pot is created for the players with additional money.

ALL-UP: To bet on many horses in the same event.

ANTE: A poker term for placing a necessary figure of money into the pot prior to the start of each hand.

BRING-IN: A required wager in 7-card stud made by the player showing the lowest value card.

BUST: You lose; As in 21, when a player’s cards exceed a value over 21.

BUY-IN: The minimal value of funds necessary to appear in a game or tournament.

CALL: As in poker, when a wager is the same as a prior made wager.

CHECK: In poker, to remain in the match without wagering. This is allowed only if no other gamblers bet in that round.

CLOSING A BET: As in spread betting, meaning to put a wager equal to but opposite of the leading wager.

COLUMN BET: To bet on one or more of the three columns of a roulette table.

COME BET: In craps, close to a pass-line wager, but carried out after the player has achieved his point.

COME-OUT ROLL: A crapshooters 1st toss to arrive at a number, or the initial roll after a number is ascertained.

COVERALL: A bingo term, which means to fill all the numbers on a bingo sheet.

CRAPPING OUT: In craps, to roll a two, three or 12 is an automatic loss on the come-out toss.

DAILY DOUBLE: To select the winners of the 1st two races of the night.

DOWN BET: To wager that the result of an event will be smaller than the lowest end of the quote on a spread bet, also known as a "sell".

DOZEN BET: In roulette, to gamble on one or more of 3 sets of 12 numbers, 1-12, etc.

EACH WAY BET: A athletic event bet, indicating to gamble on a team or player to succeed or position in a game.

EVEN MONEY BET: A wager that pays out the same amount as wagered, ( 1-1 ).

EXACTA: gambling that 2 horses in a race will complete the race in the exact identical assignment as the wager – also referred to as a " Perfecta ".

FIVE-NUMBER LINE BET: In roulette, a bet carried out on a group of five numbers, such as 1-2-3-0, and 00.
