There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
