Saturday, 2. January 2016

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that features many conveniences in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
