There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
